DMSP Montenegro

Montenegrin Directorate for Development of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEDA) was established in December 2000, and officially opened in February 2001. The Directorate has the important mission in overall socio-economic progress of Montenegro, especially in the development of entrepreneurship and SMEs.

Main tasks are:

• Defining the strategy for the development of SMEs
• Preparation and implementation of support programs and projects for SMEs
• Coordination of programs, measures and activities related to the development of SMEs
• Monitoring of the implementation of financial support programs for SME development including foreign financial support
• SMEs’ regulatory impact analysis
• Preparation of educational programs for entrepreneurs
• Network of regional and local business centers
• Implementation of special development programs for SMEs (franchising, leasing, venture capital, technological parks, incubators, etc.)

Main activities of SMEDA at present are:

• Institutional support to small and medium sized enterprises and development of entrepreneurship through 6 Regional and 3 Local Business Centers and European Information and Innovation Center, member of Enterprise Europe Network, hosted by the SMEDA.
• Initiation and implementation of research and development projects
• Education of entrepreneurs (Start-ups and existing enterprises)
• Promotion of the importance of SMEs and development of entrepreneurship

SMEDA employs 20 people, in 4 departments. The offices are in Podgorica, Novaka Miloseva 42.
